Knitting away late tonight. This is just a simple hat which I cast on earlier in the week to have as portable travel knitting when I go home to Ireland next week. I love the colour of this yarn (Quince & Co), and I adore the bright blue DPNs I’m using which are just a pleasure to wield.
I have a week of holidays next week and this fact is sinking in more and more with every passing minute and therefore I’m becoming extremely excited and yet calm. I’m in a pretty good place right now I think, I am definitely in no position to complain. Looking forward to what the first few months of 2012 has in store for me.
So at around midnight my fingers were itching so I just had to cast on for a hat and knit a few rows. Often I ignore my late night impulses, turn over and go to sleep. I always regret this so tonight I threw caution to the wind and just did it. Now I’m going to write a bit in my journal even though it is fast approaching 0130am because I will feel better for doing it!
I hate casting on
It takes so long and is so annoying. Long-tail cast on makes a nice stretchy edge but it’s so boring!
I just received a new project bag as an early Christmas present! It’s amazing!
As much fun as I’ve had with my current knitting projects, I was beginning to grow weary from all the concentration each required. Last weekend when I was at Loop with my knitting friends a skein of lovely on sale alpaca was held up to my face. Everyone oooed at the way the colours looked against my face so I had to buy it. Now I’m working a simple scarf in stockinette stitch which I began with Judy’s magic cast on. That cast on is really magic. I highly recommend it!
Feeling fairly sleepy today, I do believe a nap is immanent. It’s all gloomy and cool outside, absolutely perfect nap weather. Also there will be knitting. Always with the knitting.
What’s On My Needles 12/10/11
Strangely, all of my WIPs are patterns by Stephen West. What can I say? I’m a fan, and he’s a nice guy. It’s good to support knitwear designers!
First up is another pair of Coler Fingerless gloves which I’m knitting as a gift. Doing it in Cascade 220 worsted, which is a bit thicker than the pattern calls for but it will make for a nice warm pair gloves.
Next is an Urbana scarf. It’s going to be really nice and thick and warm. I’m a bit worried about my edges because my cast ons and offs are all over the place. However the single crochet edge will hopefully help hide a multitude of sins. Yarn is Quince & Co, which is absolutely amazing. Amazing.
Finally we have my lovely Daybreak shawl. Which has ground to a halt because weaving in ends is awful. I’m halfway through the stripes, but I want no ends to weave once I finish the knitting so I need to do some more and then continue knitting. As the weather is getting colder I’m getting more in the knitting mood. So I know I’ll conquer all of these projects before Christmas.
I took my knitting with me to the park today. It was really lovely. I don’t really like this photo of me, but that’s okay. It’s nice to share the fun anyway.
I’m so excited to go and spend my first pay cheque on lots of lovely yarn tomorrow!
I finished my gloves! I’m absolutely in love with them. Roll on Autumn because I have the perfect hand wear for you!
